Bizarre Events Unfold in Recent Days

The photography community has been subjected to a series of unusual product launches in recent months, with three companies – DJI, Insta360, and Xtra – releasing new dual-sensor gimbal cameras. The DJI Pocket 4P, Insta360 Luna Ultra, and Xtra Muse 2 Pro have been teased and hyped for months, but two-thirds of these products have yet to be officially launched.

According to the report, these companies have spent months sharing minimal information about their products, with DJI and Insta360 accused of pricing competition and patent applications. Xtra’s “early access” system, which asks customers to pay a deposit without knowing the final price or delivery date, has been criticized as “next-level insane”.

The Xtra Muse 2 Pro has been promoted with only two product photos, which do not show all sides of the camera. This lack of transparency has raised concerns among potential customers.

It is also worth noting that Xtra appears to have a close relationship with DJI, with some speculating that Xtra may be owned by DJI through a series of shell companies. Xtra’s product line is largely composed of carbon copies of DJI cameras.

DJI is currently suing Insta360, while seemingly ignoring Xtra. This has led to speculation about the nature of the relationship between DJI and Xtra.

The launch timing of these products has been unclear, with DJI and Insta360 delaying their releases. DJI has not provided a final price or availability date for the Pocket 4P in most regions, despite the camera already being available in China.

This has caused frustration among content creators, who are eager for more information about the products. The staggered release of products based on region has also been criticized, with some arguing that it is no longer effective in the age of the internet.

As global markets become increasingly interconnected, it is becoming more difficult for companies to control the flow of information about their products.

The photography community is growing increasingly tired of the lack of transparency and the prolonged release windows for these products. The constant teasing and hyping of products without providing meaningful information has led to “pocket camera fatigue”.

Companies like DJI, Insta360, and Xtra should reconsider their marketing strategies and provide more concrete information about their products to avoid alienating their customers.

The popularity of the Osmo Pocket 3 has created a lucrative market for gimbal cameras, with millions of dollars at stake. However, the current approach of these companies is not beneficial to anyone and may ultimately harm their reputation and sales.

For now, the photography community will have to wait and see how these products will perform and whether the companies will change their approach to product launches.
