      Central Platte NRD Board approves infrared photography to enforce water quality program

      GRAND ISLAND — On Thursday, November 17, the Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) Board of Directors addressed the Infrared (IR) photography used by staff to see changes in irrigation practices for the Groundwater Management Program. The IR Imagery of the entire District has been taken in August each year since 2004 and is used to determine if irrigation is present on acres that are not certified. IR imagery has been submitted as evidence to courts in the past to enforce irrigated acre compliance for the NRD’s Groundwater Quantity Program.

      After a 10+ hour plane ride on that LC-130 on the right, we landed on those skis you see beneath the plane on the ice shelf. It wasn’t the smoothest landing in the world. We didn’t have windows by the seats (we were strapped into the walls like GIs about to parachute into France on D-Day), and the pilots later told me we landed so hard the tips of the wings almost hit the ground.

      Not only is there a wariness about smartphone companies such as Huawei and drone giant DJI, but also the US government is somewhat skeptical of companies such as Dahua and Hikvision, makers of security equipment such as cameras used for surveillance. Citing national security concerns, the FCC has banned the sale of new equipment by these companies, the Wall Street Journal reports.
