Oil On the Aperture Blades – Johnny Martyr

I thought it might be useful to do a blog about a lens that I just sold on eBay this week. It was a Nikkor 135mm 2.8 AIS that I’d owned and used fairly sparingly for probably around 15 years. It was a useful lens but nothing I was ever in love with, hence the infrequent use. Recently, I picked up a 180mm 2.8 AIS ED (which I am in love with and will be posting about soon) and because I am a fan of selling excess camera gear, I decided to clear some space for the 180 by selling

Historical canal photos, 1857 map to be displayed at Bourne Town Hall

BUZZARDS BAY The past is present again as photographs of the Bourne Town Hall opening and Cape Cod Canal construction go up on the re-painted gray-and-white walls of the red-brick seat of government at Perry Avenue.

The early 20th century, black-and-white images were first printed, enlarged and framed by town archivist Gioia Dimock for the 2014 centennial celebration of the 1914 canal opening. That year, Town Hall also opened next to Bourne’s Pond, 200 yards from the soon-to-be-world-famous canal.

If you’re Meta, it looks like you’re in the latter camp as a recently announced platform update might indicate.

In a bid to join the NFT phenomenon, Facebook and Instagram are looking into allowing users to mint and sell NFTs under the guise of “helping creators make money.”

Called digital collectibles, Meta hopes that this will connect users with creators and allow them to “support their favorite creators by

Running Through the Years « Joe McNally Photography

I remember when the enormity of the NYC Marathon really hit me. Some years ago, I was in a helicopter, flying eyeball to eyeball with the Verrazzano, looking north to the distant Manhattan skyline, and I noticed the cables supporting the bridge were moving. And not just, you know, wiggling. They were shaking, rattling, jumping, quivering. The sheer weight and motion of that tramping horde of runners, their legs moving up and down, piston-like, was shivering a suspension bridge that was designed for heavy objects to roll over it in relatively smooth horizontal fashion. The structure was unaccustomed to thousands

Columbia Sheriff ‘troubled’ by body camera video from arrest of legally blind man

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said it is conducting an administrative investigation into a recent arrest of a legally blind man.

Body camera video has been circulating online of the Monday, Oct. 31, arrest of James Hodges, 61, who was arrested for resisting arrest without violence.

A deputy believed Hodges was carrying “what appeared to be a silver (chrome) pistol with a white grip in his back right pocket,” according to Hodges’ arrest report. The item was later identified to be a folded-up walking stick.

Hodges was crossing Marion Avenue near Duval Street “when the traffic control device indicated not

Recapping 2022’s Biggest Week in Photography News

      Big Week in Photo News

What a week. We can’t remember a time when this much stuff all dropped all at once, with new equipment from just about everyone, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, and OM Digital.

Not only did all these companies release something new, but many of them also released multiple new things.

So in a bit of a divergence from what we normally do here at Clipped Highlights, I just want to recap all of the stuff that has come out in the last week so you can be sure you didn’t miss anything.

An Introduction to Videography | Light stalking

I will be honest with you, I dislike the word Videography. It has neither the tone or attractiveness of the word Photography. Video is of course an electronic extension of Film Making or, even better, Cinematography and it is the art of capturing video images for electronic media and streaming media.

Whatever we call it, capturing video is a major part of photography today. Pretty much any camera you purchase will have some form of video capability. Even smartphones can produce incredible footage, to the point where award winning films have been made solely with iPhones.

      Today we are
